Pumpkin Patch
If I could dress Julia up for Halloween, she would be a crab. When she was just learning how to crawl, her PoPo (Mike's mom) bought her this silly crab that would loudly crawl all over the place and Julia got the biggest kick out of chasing after it. After she had mastered walking and running, Julia watched Ms. Rachel's friend (also named Jules) singing the "crabby crab" song. Julia had not figured out how to crab walk just yet, but she was so determined to do it. I was talking to my Aunt Mary Jo yesterday and we were imagining Jesus teaching Julia the crab walk in heaven. I imagine it was one of the very first things they did together when she arrived.
Julia also learned from Ms. Rachel about a pumpkin patch. During our last trip to the library, Julia discovered a section of Halloween books. Her eyes got so wide and she gasped, "Pumpkin patch! Pumpkin patch!" Her brain was connecting the dots and she was so proud of herself for it. I was so proud too. It was the first time I saw her pick out her own book from the library without any help from her mom. My mom (Julia's Grandma J.) bought those library books for me after she died so I still have them here. A wonderful gift.
I was recounting that moment at the library to Julia's PoPo. We imagined together that Julia's reaction to the pumpkin patch books is the reaction she's having all the time in heaven. I wonder how many dots she is connecting and how many times she's gasping with exhilaration because she is discovering something that she learned a little about on earth and is now learning in fullness. I imagine her eyes widening when she met Jesus for the first time, "I know your song! Jesus loves us! That's you!"
Here's a video of Julia doing the "tabby tab" a.k.a. the "crabby crab" a.k.a. the crab walk.
